Protecting your Fourth Amendment rights and your freedom

Each amendment of the U.S. Constitution is important, but none protects a person's home and belongings as the Fourth Amendment does. In it, the founders of the nation stated that people have the right to be secure in their homes from "unreasonable searches and seizures."

When police raid a home looking for drugs, weapons, criminals, etc., they must have a valid search warrant or permission in order to enter the premises. An experienced Orlando criminal defense attorney knows that far too often officers get away with unlawful searches because a suspect doesn't know his or her rights or does not have legal representation that can protect those rights.

A recent Central Florida TV report detailed law enforcement raids on 8 homes, resulting in 29 arrests on charges involving drug trafficking. In fact, officials said it was the biggest drug bust in the history of St. Cloud.

Federal agents and local police agencies put Operation Rollin' on the River together over a six-month period. They said suspects arrested are part of a drug ring peddling heroin, cocaine and marijuana.

According to the TV report, officers arrested several people not named on the warrants because they were in possession of illegal drugs.

Confiscated in the raids were 423 grams of cocaine, 63 grams of heroin, 7 grams of methamphetamine and 5,157 grams of marijuana. Police also seized $15,676 in cash and said they found 453 "illegal pills."

Officers also confiscated 2 guns and 3 motor vehicles.
