A 39-year-old Orlando man has been accused by law enforcement officials
of using his trucking company to transport drugs into Central Florida.
Peter Truong, the president of P&T Transportation Corp., has been
charged with
trafficking in oxycodone, marijuana and cocaine.
The Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation and its member agencies conducted
a two-year investigation of the company before arresting Truong and 9
others, including P&T truckers.
Truong also faces a charge under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations
Act, better known as RICO. That means he can be
subject to both civil and criminal penalties. Anyone found guilty of unlawful racketeering activity can be sentenced
to up to 30 years in prison.
Plus,
the defendant can be ordered to pay up to 3 times the amount of money gained in their activity, or 3 times
the loss created (losses such as injuries and property damage).
An MBI spokesperson said P&T trucks would haul the drugs alongside
legitimate goods from companies that likely knew nothing of the alleged
illegal activities. Law enforcement agencies say the drugs were obtained
on trucking runs to California and Colorado and then brought back to Florida
for distribution.
Two West Colonial Drive businesses were raided when arrests were made
late last week. Officials said the businesses cut the drug loads into
smaller portions and managed the organization's finances.
Also raided Friday were homes in Winter Garden, Apopka and south of downtown
Orlando, according to
a media report.
